    Starting A Home Recycling Project

Municipal restrictions at solid waste facilities has made home recycling a daily routine for many families.

Getting your family to work together to collect and separate recyclables from waste is no small task, it requires time and commitment.

The best way to start a home recycling program is to learn what you can recycle. Every community is a bit different.

Find out if there is curb side pick up or if you need to drop off your recyclables at a recycling centre.

Once you know what you can recycle and how to dispose of the recyclables you collect you’re ready to start recycling.

The key to a successful home recycling program is simplicity – it has to be easy to do. Be sure everyone knows what they can recycle.

Put recycle and waste collection bins throughout your house – in the kitchen, bathrooms, home office and family room.

Consistency is also important. The bins should be the same configuration in every room. Clear easy to read signs should be placed on each bin to ensure there is no confusion as to what materials go in what bins.

The bins should be emptied and cleaned frequently to ensure everyone puts their recyclables and waste in the appropriate bins.

Place a larger container in your garage or backyard to store recyclables and waste.

Get the kids involved, they love to recycle and will make your home recycling project a success!
